    • 9:45 AM - The Art and Science of Nutrition Therapy: Integrating Intuitive Eating and Body Positivity into Your Practice
Paige Smathers, RD, CD: Owner of Positive Nutrition in Salt Lake City, UT

Intuitive eating and body positivity are
gaining momentum and popularity in the current culture at large and field of nutrition and dietetics specifically. Many dietitians are shifting the focus of their practice from weight loss to well being and have questions along the way of how to do this in an evidenced-based manner. It can be tricky to navigate a non-diet approach and with the momentum these movements are gaining in recent years, many dietitians want practical tools to help them integrate these ideas into their practice.

    • 11:00 AM - Dietary Manipulation to Influence Inflammation and the Microbiome in Order to Prevent Anxiety and Depression Kara Landau, APD; CEO and Founder of Uplift Food in New York, NY

The gut brain axis and its influence over mental wellbeing is continuing to gain momentum within scientific communities; With 90% of mood calming serotonin being produced within the gut, and with depression now being known to be connected with internal inflammation and not merely a hormonal imbalance, it is more important than ever for dietitians to be at the forefront on understanding this connection, as well as being confident in providing dietary recommendations to patients to show them how nutrition can be a powerful tool to support positive mental health.

    • 12:15 PM - Lunch and Networking
    • 1:15 PM - PCOS MNT: Food Peace is Possible and Dietitians Can Help Make It Happen

Julie Duffy Dillon MS, RD,NCC,LDN,CEDRD; Owner of Julie Dillon Consulting, Greensboro, NC

Polycystic ovarian syndrome is the most common cause of ovulatory infertility and 40% of those affected experience diabetes by the time they are 40. Most dietitians rely on weight centric calorie restrictions and low carb diabetic meal planning to treat PCOS yet those don’t work for most people. This presentation will focus on filling up the dietitian’s toolbox with concrete weight inclusive tools to help clients understand their physiology, improve body image, and illuminate their path toward Food Peace.
