Public Relations Public Blog Posts

The Public Policy Committee is a team of registered dietitians, dietetic interns, and students pursuing dietetics who lobby for policies that advance our profession, as well as those that promote the health and well-being of the general public. We focus on brainstorming proposals for legislation, tracking proposed legislation, promoting proposed legislation, communicating with legislators, and organizing lobby days in Albany and Washington DC. We coordinate with the national Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND), as well as the New York State Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (NYSAND).

GNYDA's Public Policy Co-Chair Michelle Brenseke, and student fellow Amey Shue, co-organized a lobby day visit to our beautiful state capital with NYSAND's lobbyist Heather Evans who scheduled meetings with several legislators from the attendees districts.

The small, but passionate group of RDNs and dietetic interns spoke with their legislators from both the senate and assembly. They were successful in their efforts to introduce our profession, and gain support and potential co-sponsorship for the Therapeutic Diet Ordering TDO Bill. They also had the wonderful opportunity to thank Assemblywoman Jaffee for her support and sponsorship for both TDO and Licensure Bills.
